No Ordinary Scandal

I read in The Wall Street Journal an opinion article by one of my favorite writers, Peggy Noonan.  In her piece she cited two Watergate level abuses as follows:

1. “…the obviously deliberate and targeted abuse, harassment and attempted suppression of conservative groups.”

2. “…the auditing of the taxes of political activists.”The president acts totally shocked and unconnected.  What ever happened to President Truman’s pronouncement that, “The buck stops here.”The scary part of this extraordinary scandal is not only that the government’s revenue-producing arm of government was used for political purposes, but that the abuses led up to the 2012 elections.

I agree with Peggy Noonan that the magnitude and nature of these flagrant abuses demand the appointment of an independent counsel.
